IPad embedded .pdf audio support

Postby squareshoulders » Mon Apr 23, 2012 6:18 am

Anyone try the new Readdle Ipad .pdf 4.0 upgrade on the audio .pdf documents?

http://www.cultofmac.com/158441/pdf-exp ... -and-more/

Wondering if the audio works with the files.

Seems to work! Got the sounds going on one file so far. Have to move the files to PDF expert on the iPad.

Worked on this. You can move the audio .pdf files to the PDA Expert program on the IPad via USB connection. Then the .pdf files show up as icons on a page. You double click on the icon and open the .pdf file, and there are little arrows next to the sentences. You click on the arrow, and you get a very clear sound. Works nicely.

One thing, however, the way they show up as icons make the icon text too small to read. So the icons all look pretty much the same. The file titles are different, but they begin with numbers or the word "audio." This makes it hard to figure out which ones you are opening - makes it a guessing game. So if you guys have a list of your lessons in .pdf format which correlates the lesson names to the numbers, it would be helpful to have you upload that list. Then we can download the .pdf and use it as an index.

Thanks for sharing this info. It's great to hear that people can now use the audio transcripts on the iPad. I'm unclear about the titles being different though, it would be useful to email us a screenshot so that we can get a better understanding of the issue.

Here's the screenshot. Basically, you can see that the .pdf naming convention for the audio files doesn't give a lot of information, and the file listing isn't very helpful. The name gives the lesson number and level. If we have an index, we can correlate the bare name to a meaningful description of the subject matter covered in English. That's all. We can also change the names by hand, but that's rather tedious. Or we can skip it and use the click and discover method (what I've done so far).

Here's a concisely formatted .pdf of the list, adapted, which people can upload to the Ipad. Not sure I got the "Advanced" lessons translated correctly as your text file listing was garbled for them.
