the meaning of one verb

Postby andreea.p » Tue May 03, 2011 6:37 pm

Can someone, please, tell me what is the meaning of the verb إعتصم - يعتصم ب? My dictionary does not seem very useful in this case.

Thank you and regards,

Andreea

As far as I've heard a long time ago, the meaning would be "to find refuge in". But I have asked this on the forum, sincerily, because I become confused after my teacher (native arab speaker) told me that is completely wrong, as far as the noun إعتصام means something similar with "strike" and therefore I would really need a second opinion. From my point of view the verb means also to find refuge in, but I can't have the guts to contradict a native speaker:)

Coming in second is Titan with 6 votes.

Following up as third is Hermes Green with 5 votes.

Tied for fourth are 610nm and Frozen Pheonix with 3 votes each.

Also tied, 6th place goes to CA Halcyon Green and keeping the current theme both with 2 votes.

Coming up last are we_clearblue and Avalon Cyan, with a lonely vote.

Andreea,

I popped it into Google Translate and came up with marching for يعتصم but I was not able to match that up to any of the three dictionaries that I have (Hippocrene, Wehr, or the Merriam Webster's). Were you ever able to figure this one out?

شكراً
