Beginner -- Like Music? (Listener Feedback)

Mohammed and Ehab --

Great lesson guys.

Really enjoyed it.

A few comments:

* Thought the introduction of the word for song/music, "agh-ghaani", would have been a good opportunity to reinforce sun letters and moon letters, especially in a beginner lesson.

* Also, concerning the pronunciation of the word for tape, 'shariiT': Mohammed, your pronunciation of the emphatic "T", the last letter, didn't sound that much different that a regular "t". The guest, Raqiyah?, who was a good addition, seemed to hit it the closest. Is it just how Saudis pronounce it?

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Aghaani does not contain the definite article. 'Aghaani' (أغاني) means 'songs' and 'al-aghaani' (الاغاني) is 'THE songs'.

And ghain (غ) is a moon letter I think. So if you had a word starting with غ for example ghaabah (غابة), which means 'forest', to make it 'THE forest' you add 'AL' before it, so it would become al-ghaabah (الغابة), the laam (ل) of AL is pronounced in this case because غ is a moon letter.

You're right. Ghain is a moon letter. I think I confused the first syllable, "a" with the definite artile.

What about the emphatic "T" in shariiT? Is it less emphatic in Saudi/Gulf dialect?

Easy mistake to make

I don't know about the T in Saudi/Gulf dialect, perhaps it's just Mohamed :-p

It is normal that a letter in a word is pronounced slightly in different way than when you pronounce it alone. The best time that the letter (ط) in (شريط) is pronounced in the lesson was at 11:18. Also any time you get confused about a letter you can check the APG in Sharepoint where every letter is pronounced individually.
By the way,, Raqiyah is not a guest, she is part of the team :)
