arabic song - Sanaa Mousa

Postby amya88 » Thu Mar 31, 2011 6:27 am

Salam,
Could anyone help me translate this song by Sanaa Mousa? She's a Palestinian singer, so it's Levantine dialect I guess...

Here's what I came up with, but it probably doesn't make sense:

وعيونها يا طيري وتقول فنجان
(and her eyes, oh my bird, says the cup)

فنجان بالقيهيوة ممتليه
(a cup full of coffee)

يا عيونك سود حلوة يا عيونك
(oh your eyes, black and beautiful, oh your eyes)

وسنونها يا طيري وتقول مرجان
(and her years, oh my bird, says (Mirjan=coral??))

مرجانة على اللولو مختلية
(?...to/for?...the pearl (different?))

يا عيونك سود حلوة يا عيونك
(oh your eyes, black and beautiful, oh your eyes)

Shukran kteer!

Nice song, and very good translation, one should say. Since it is a poem, I would suggest the following translation:

وعيونها يا طيري وتقول فنجان
(and her eyes, oh my bird, you would say a cup (i.e as big as a up cup))

فنجان بالقيهيوة ممتليه
(a cup full of coffee)

يا عيونك سود حلوة يا عيونك
(oh your eyes, black and beautiful, oh your eyes)

وسنونها يا طيري وتقول مرجان
(and her teeth, oh my bird, you would says coral ( as nice as coral))

مرجانة على اللولو مختلية
A coral sets proud on pearls

يا عيونك سود حلوة يا عيونك
(oh your eyes, black and beautiful, oh your eyes)

Interesting colloquial poem, you see loads of metaphoric terms here, like coffee cup to represent big black eyes, coral and pearl to represent white teeth..

Hope that helps.
