Arabic on Wikipedia

Postby skon » Sun Jul 13, 2008 7:58 pm

Hey guys, I'm studying Arabic in college but I am always looking for new ways to read some good Arabic.
I thought about picking a Wikipedia page and selecting the Arabic translation on the left-hand side and trying to read it. What do you guys think about this method? Are the Arabic wikipedia articles usually well-written and do you think I will learn a lot this way? Or should I just stick to textbooks? Is there too much colloquial Arabic or is it mostly MSA?

Arabic in wikipedia is MSA and it is a good source to learn, however, because it is run by specialist and non-specialist, there is a risk of reading wrong things and getting used to it.
Arabic newspapers can be a good source to read, they all are classical and well written.

Thanks Ehab. Which newspapers do you recommend? Ones that I could read online hopefully. I am hoping to study in Egypt next year, do you think Al-Ahram would be a good choice? Shukran.

Ya, Al-Ahraam can be a good choice, you will learn Arabic as well as learning about the life in Egypt since you are going there.

Ahlan blues of alwaha;

As it is your first time to teach Arabic for non-speakers, it might be a bit challenging in the beginning, but if you work hard you'll be alright inshallah. We wish you the best.
