Well,, قرد means Monkey, but HAL at the beginning is a colloquial way of saying THIS, so the translation of هالقرد is (This monkey) :)

Hi Ehab

Thanks very much for this. Simpler than i was trying to make it! :)

By the way after I sent this, I wondered had I made a mistake putting a ya for the verb in the heading" Or is it always in the masc despite كلمة
being fem.

Cheers

Hi again Ehab

I know this isn't a translation service and so will understand a discreet no-reply but further to "this monkey" I am trying to figure the meaning in this context:

Someone is supposed to be opening an event but he says:

ما بقى تلاقوا غير هالقرد؟

and then leaves, possibly because of the presence of a particular person at the event, who is one of his critics. I wonder therefore if this very free meaning makes sense:

Can they not continue to meet without this trouble-maker?

In looking at this, I realised that غير
is a fascinating word which seems to shfit between "more than" and "none" :?

Thanks again (and your site is excellent I should add - I hope you can keep it up)

Best regards

Hanna

Hey Hanna,, you know translation is a skill that is far more complicated than what people thinks. For this sentence ما بقى تلاقوا غير هالقرد؟, the free meaning that I would use is: Can't you find another better person?

Hope it makes sense.

Many thanks, Ehab. Believe me i don't think it's not complicated!

That translation definitely makes sense.
